Buena Onda: Good, Simple Mexican Food

We are lucky to have so many good restaurants within a 20 minute walking distance from our apartment. One of our favorites, that’s only a five minute walk from our place, is Buena Onda. Buena Onda means “good vibes”, and you feel it as soon as you walk in to the restaurant.

The restaurant is owned and run by Iron Chef Jose Garces, but it’s different from his other restaurants. It’s a very casual, laid back place. The decor is simple, no frills, but comfortable. Their seafood is fresh, sustainably sourced, and chosen in partnership with seafoodwatch.org. They are very conscience about recycling, and giving back to the community. A portion of every sale of guacamole and bottled water goes to the Garces Foundation.

The food is inspired by the Baja Peninsula. The menu consists of salads, tacos, quesadillas, margaritas, and it’s all very good. We’ve enjoyed every meal that we’ve had here. They feature many daily specials such as half priced margaritas on Tuesday’s, two dollar chicken tacos on Thursday’s, and a three dollar happy hour menu Monday to Friday.

The servers and staff are about the friendliest you will ever meet. They care about the quality of the food and drinks, and it shows with every bite and sip you take. When we are looking for something quick, simple, and delicious to have for dinner, Buena Onda is always one of our go to places. If you are ever in the area, make sure you give them a try!
