Depending on one’s preference, sushi at a steak house is a toss-up. It will either be a very good or a very bad choice to order. Following the smooth singing stylings of Sharon Sable’s CD launch party, we were both still in the mood to celebrate, and walked the half block to Ocean Prime.
When you walk in to Ocean Prime, the first thing that you see are the smiling hostess and host ready to seat you at a table, or direct you to the bar. We decided to go to the bar for a couple of cocktails, and an appetizer or two.
We started with cocktails, and compared charbroiled oysters and sushi. For our cocktail, I started with their amazing Berries & Bubbles, and Eric had a cucumber gimlet. Both were delicious, but the Berries & Bubbles is a site to see. They put dry ice in the glass so the cocktail actually bubbles and forms smoke.
Our order of oysters and a tempura sea bass roll came out, and both were plated exceptionally well. When we tasted both, we couldn’t believe that we were in a place known mainly for steaks. These dishes were delicious. Both were perfectly cooked and tasted amazing.
We loved the food here so much that a few weeks later, we went back for their happy hour. Unfortunately, the bar was full, so we opted to have a seated dinner instead.
We started with an order of their prime steak tartare, that came with capers, shallots, and crostini. It was so good. It was light and very flavorful. The capers added the right amount of saltiness to the dish.
For our entrees, I ordered the lobster bisque, the dynamite roll, and the tuna roll. Eric ordered the chop chop salad. Everything was delicious. The lobster bisque was so creamy, and they don’t skimp on the lobster! The two rolls were wonderful. The dynamite roll was a combination of tempura shrimp, spicy mayo, and sesame seeds. The tuna roll had spicy tuna, avocado, and cucumber. The salad included hard cooked eggs, salami, fresh mozzarella, smoked bacon, and a club dressing. It was so good! This was a very hearty salad.
For dessert, our server treated us with a sorbet, topped with an almond cookie. It was such a wonderful surprise and gesture on his part. The staff at Ocean Prime are always so friendly, and their attention to detail is top notch. The food is always fantastic, whether you sit at the bar or the dining room, make sure you go and try their amazing food.
Love the sound of Berries & Bubbles cocktail. The Dynamite Roll sounds pretty good, too.
