Thursday, June 6, was the premier of Piazza Pod Park, a family-friendly, dog playing, and gastronomic foodie heaven! Kory Aversa, of Aversa PR & Events, held a ribbon-cutting ceremony that featured all the owners of the pods, and a Post Brothers representative.
Following the ribbon cutting, it was time to eat and drink the night away!!! With my darling fiancé, we sampled everything food related, and got the chance to sample away at Teddy Sourias’s Blume pod! Some celebrities present included Ester Katie Katro from WPVI/6ABC, and Pete Pappas. We also ran into a number of people that I have come to be very well acquainted with in the past few years. Some of these wonderful people include Michelle Leonard, aka, The Hat Lady, Hugh E Dillon, photographer extraordinaire, Jennifer Robinson, Alex Holley, and many, many others.
Now, on to the good stuff! The food!!! The first place that we tried was the Empanada Box. The featured empanada was a frontera mac and cheese! It was filled with elbow pasta, jack and cheddar cheese, chorizo, and house-pickled jalapeño. It was hot, spicy, and perfectly cooked. The next empanada that we tried was the Philly Cheese Steak, with provolone, sliced beef, caramelized onions, and a pepperoncini-whiz sauce. This too was also delicious. We are both thinking it will be very popular.
Because it was extremely crowded, we next went to Mama Maria’s Water Ice to cool down. I tried the Philly Special, and it was delicious. We next walked over to the Wine Bar, and I tried their Sauvignon Blanc, while Eric had the Frose. Both were very good and very refreshing. From there we went to the Tiki Tako pod. If you like spicy, instagrammable-worthy tacos, make sure you go here!! They also serve cocktails so we tried their mai tai’s. They were fantastic!
After stuffing ourselves with drinks and taco’s, we next preceded to Spread Bagelry, where we sampled some delicious bagels and spreads. Their lox spread was really good. From there, we went to Lil Sum Sum. They were serving up different samples of dumplings, chicken and noodles. Again, everything was very good.
We took a breather for a few minutes and decided to visit the last remaining food pods that we hadn’t been to yet. First up was French Toast Bites by Lokal Artisan Foods. These were absolutely delicious. The french toast bites were perfectly fried and you had a choice of toppings, such as chocolate, strawberries, caramel and whipped cream. Make sure you stop here. The last food pod was Essen Bakery. They have samples of their delicious chocolate rugelach, which are miniature chocolate pastries.
To sum Piazza Pod Park up, it was fun, friendly and inviting. The restaurants and bars represented here are top notch. This is such a wonderful concept. It is such a great way to convert a once empty lot into a place where friends, family, and the community, can come together, sit back, relax, and enjoy good food and drinks. Make sure you visit the pod park, and have a great time! We certainly did!
