One of our favorite jazz singers, Sharon Sable, held their new CD release party at Chris’ Jazz Cafe about a month ago. “Love Evermore” is the title of the CD, and I highly recommend you purchase it. Her voice is mesmerizing, soothing, and a pleasure to listen to classic jazz music. This was our first time dining at Chris’ Jazz Cafe, so we were doubly excited on this night.
We reserved a table about an hour before the show started so we could enjoy our dinner. We started with their chicken spring rolls, served with wasabi dijon, soy cucumber, and sweet and sour sauces. We also ordered the Spanish octopus, served with confit fingerlings, garlic, chili oil, fennel, and roaster red peppers. Both appetizers were absolutely delicious. The chicken spring rolls were hot and crispy. The array of sauces were a wonderful compliment to the dish. The octopus was cooked perfectly and seasoned very well.
For our entrees, I ordered the New Orleans style jambalaya, and Eric ordered the grilled Cornish game hen. The entrees fell a bit short. The rice in the jambalaya was a bit overcooked, and it needed more seasoning. It was good, but just needed some minor fixes. Eric’s Cornish hen was cooked perfectly. It came with a fingerling potato salad, and an elote corn cream side. The potato salad was good, but the corn cream side could be omitted completely. It just didn’t go with the dish. Overall, our meals were good. Finally, we split an order of Orange creme brûlée. It was delicious. The balance of the orange paired beautifully with the cream. The only complaint is that it should have set another five minutes before serving. Otherwise, it was spectacular!
It was finally time for Sharon and the band to preform, and they didn’t disappoint. We’ve seen Sharon preform at the Rittenhouse Hotel many times, but she is usually with one other musician. Tonight, she had a full band so this was a real treat for us. It was an amazing show. They preformed many songs from the new CD, and some classic jazz songs. It was nice to see the restaurant completely packed for the event. I always love to see someone so talented have such a loyal following. Sharon definitely has that!
Overall, this was a wonderful evening of food, wine, and music. Would we go back to Chris’ Jazz Cafe? Absolutely! The staff were so friendly, and overall, the food was good. If you want to hear some top notch jazz musicians, make sure you put Chris’ on your list!
