In my opinion, there are certain things that go hand in hand. Good food, good drinks, cultural events, history, music and art. We are so lucky that Philadelphia in the last several years has undergone a wonderful transformation and offers the best in all these categories. There are so many wonderful art galleries in the city but our absolute favorite is the Twenty-Two Gallery owned by Shawn Murray. The gallery has been around since 2003. With today’s ever-changing economy, that’s a true testament to Shawn’s committment to the arts and how he has adapted to the economic times.
The gallery is located in a beautiful section of Philadelphia. It’s just a few minutes walking distance of Rittenhouse Square and wonderful restaurants, shops and museums. The gallery features a new artist every month and has an opening to feature the artist. This months featured artist is Phyllis Anderson and her work is absolutely stunning. From the moment we walked into the gallery, we were just memorized by her art. Eric told me when we walked in that we were going to purchase a piece of work of her’s before we left. He was correct. We did! We arrived late because of a pervious engagement but the gallery was still packed with fellow art lovers.
Anderson’s work just pops at you the moment you see it. It’s bright, colorful, vibrant and full of life. The work she was showcasing this evening was based on her time in Colorado. They were stunning and beautiful. We got the opportunity to talk with her and she is such a friendly and personable person. She truly loves what she does and it shows in her art. I’m so happy that we will be owners of one of her works.
Twenty-Two Gallery is a wonderful gallery that you really need to visit. Not only is the featured artist on display for a month, but they have works from many other amazing local artists. It’s set up as a co-op so the artists get more of a percentage of their artwork sold. The owner, Shawn is such a friendly and wonderful person. He love the arts and it’s a true testament to his commitment seeing how long he has been in business.
If you live in the area, please go and visit the Twenty-Two Gallery. Not only is it in a wonderful part of the city, it’s just a wonderful art gallery. There are price points for everyone. Also, if you need a small and intimate space to host an event, Twenty-Two Gallery may be the place for you. They also rent their space out for any event. How wonderful is that?! Imagine celebrating a milestone event surrounded by wonderful works of art. I can’t think of a better venue. As Thomas Merton said, “art enables us to find ourselves and lose ourselves at the same time.” I couldn’t have said it better.
