Nektar of the Gods!

Every now and then, it’s nice to get out of the city and see the countryside. New Hope is close enough to Philadelphia yet far enough away to make you feel like you are in another world. It’s a small, quaint, beautiful town located north of Philadelphia right on the Delaware River. New Hope and the surrounding area is loaded with history dating back to the 1700’s. The town is full of art galleries, funky shops, clothing stores and restaurants galore. One really, really good restaurant is Nektar.

We first went to Nektar a couple of years’ ago and instantly fell in love with the restaurant. The location is so picturesque. It’s a stone throw from the Bucks County Playhouse and there is a canal that runs right behind the property. Nektar has three floors. When you first walk in, there is a bar and seating area. When you walk past the bar, you go up a few steps to a beautiful seating area that can be closed off in the winter time. The downstairs seating area can also be closed off when the weather gets chilly but there is a patio seating area when the weather is nice. No matter where you decide to sit, you will enjoy the scenery.

The food at Nektar is amazing. We started with their incredible crab empanadas! If you go, you have to order this! It may be one of the best empanadas we’ve ever tasted. It is stuffed, and I mean stuffed, with Maryland blue crab, boursin and comes with a wonderful mango salsa. We also ordered the tuna tartare, an heirloom tomato flatbread, and their turkey and bacon sandwich. Everything was delicious. We paired all of this with a bottle of 2016 Chateau De Saint Cosme “Les Deux Albion” which was wonderful.

In addition to their fantastic wine, beer and cocktail list, they have an extensive amount of whiskeys and bourbons. Not sure what to order? No problem. Nektar also has wine and whiskey flights. The staff is also very knowledgeable so tell them what you taste preference is and they’ll be happy to steer you in the right direction.

Nektar is our “go to” spot whenever we are in New Hope. The location is perfect, the food is excellent and there is no shortage of drink options. It’s the perfect spot to sit and relax and have either a light bite or a wonderful dinner. Next time you are in New Hope, please give them a try.
