Wine Tasting at Bistro Romano

If you love wine tasting, you’ll love Bistro Romano and all the wonderful wine events they have going on each month. One such event we recently attended was a wine tasting featuring Villa Pozzi Wines from Sicily, Italy. We were interested in this event for personal reasons as well. Eric’s family on his father’s side is from Sicily, so this had a special meaning to us. Villa Pozzi representative, Matteo Pozzi, was on hand to explain the wines and answer any questions. He also talked about Sicily and answered quite a few travel related questions about the island off the coast of mainland Italy. The event was held in the restaurant’s beautiful bar area. For larger wine events, they utilize their third floor which is a much larger space.

He brought five wines for us to try this night and all of them were outstanding. Our favorites were the Nero d’Avola, Pinot Grigio and the Cabernet Sauvignon. The Nero is a special wine from Sicily. It’s been called the most important red wine grape in Sicily and one of Italy’s most important indigenous varieties. It’s named for the town of Avola in the far south of Sicily. The wine itself was smooth with hints of blackberry, vanilla and fig. It’s a full bodied wine that would pare great with most dishes. The Pinot Grigio was smooth and buttery with hints of pear, lemon and peach. It’s a perfect wine to have on a warm spring or summer day! And the Cabernet was also smooth and full bodied with hints of vanilla, pepper and blackberry.

I want to thank Bistro Romano again for hosting this night’s event and for all the wine tasting events they have throughout the year. If you have never been to one, please be sure to checkout their website and events page. And another big thank you goes out to Matteo Pozzi and his families wonderful wines. You can tell by talking with him and tasting the wines, how much work and passion they put into each and every bottle.
