Olon Brunch in Atlantic City

On a beautiful warm summer day, we decided to take a little detour on our way back from Maryland and head to Atlantic City. We were meeting one of our best friends for brunch at Iron Chef Jose Garces’ restaurant, Olon, located inside the Tropicana Hotel and Casino in Atlantic City. It was the first time we had been here and it was amazing. Everything from the scenery, to the food, to the service, it was all fantastic. And as an added treat, Iron Chef Garces was also there that day and we were able to meet him!

Right outside the entrance to the restaurant, there is a large bar and off the bar is where they set up the mimosa station. There were six different types of mimosa’s! This brunch was certainly off to a great start. There was guava, pineapple, peach, orange juice, grapefruit and pomegranate. When you walked inside the restaurant, the scenery and layout was simply stunning. Floor to ceiling windows spanning the entire length of the restaurant overlooking the boardwalk and Atlantic Ocean. It was breathtaking.

From their incredible menu, you get a couple of options. You can order a la carte or you can pay a flat fee and get their brunch special which included the bottomless raw bar, choice of first course, choice of especialidad, waffle or single smoked fish, coffee or tea. Needless to say, we did the brunch special. The bottomless raw bar was to die for. Raw bar lovers take note. You’ll feel like you died and went to heaven. There was shrimp, crab, oysters, choices of sauces, and on and on. You could fill up easily just eating from here! For the especialidad, we both ordered the crab benedict. It was served with jumbo lump crab, sourdough, swiss chard, chorizo, ají panda hollandaise and potato hash. How’s that sound? And of course, besides a mimosa or two, brunch always calls for a Bloody Mary. And to wrap up this incredible food fest, there was a variety of desserts. The toughest  choice was deciding which one’s and how many to try.

Trust me when I say if you leave Olon and you’re still hungry, you either didn’t eat anything or there is something medically wrong with you. Everything was delicious! Iron Chef Garces has built a wonderful reputation for running excellent quality restaurants in Philadelphia and New York. You can add Olon to that list. Next time we are in Atlantic City, we are definitely heading back here for brunch.
