Story and photos by Tiffany C. DuBois
On a hot and humid Thursday afternoon, newly opened Just Salad was a breath of fresh, chilled air, as scores of people came to try out a brand-new restaurant! I had the dubious honor of covering the new restaurant’s grand opening and trying some of their delicious food.
First things first however, a little history on them. Just Salad has multiple locations in New York City, Chicago, Kansas, Dubai and Hong Kong. Their newest restaurant at 1729 Chestnut Street in Philadelphia is their first location in Pennsylvania. Everyone knows them by their iconic reusable blue salad bowls that can be purchased for one dollar. When you bring the bowl back in to any of their locations, you get either a premium cheese or two essential toppings for free. By doing this simple, easy and inexpensive purchase, Just Salad helps save over 75,000 lbs. of plastic each year.
Another thing that I appreciate about Just Salad is how they are so committed to use local and fresh ingredients. They do not believe in processed or canned foods. Everything is fresh from the lettuce right down to the made from scratch salad dressings. On my visit, I ordered the Thai Chicken Crunch salad that is made with romaine lettuce, red cabbage, grilled chicken, carrots, celery and wontons and spicy Thai peanut dressing. I also had their Berry Wild smoothie that chilled me to my bones. A mixture of blueberries, strawberries, banana, Greek yogurt and agave that was simply delicious and perfect for this hot and humid day. They also have a nice selection of wraps and toast boxes that are definitely worth a taste!
Nowadays, we are all more conscience as to what we eat and where our food is coming from. You’ll never have to worry about these things at Just Salad. They take food and freshness very seriously and it shows. Be sure to stop in when you can. They are open Monday-Friday from 10:30am to 10pm, and Saturday-Sunday from 11am to 9:30pm. And for more information, be sure to visit their website at www.justsalad.com.
